FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
Scientific studies consistently show that counselling and therapy work. Therapy is not just talking and it is in no way equivalent to talking to a friend. At Aware Mental Health, you will work on a active form of therapy which involves learning psychological skills to handle difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively. Overtime, you will uncover your strengths and use the skills to deal with the challenges that arise in life.
Aware Mental Health also has a Consultant Psychiatrist who comes in once a week, so if medication is needed, you will benefit from meeting the Psychiatrist.
Counselling is more often a short-term consultation and works only on the surface. It is helpful for temporary issues that need immediate attention. For instance, let’s say you go through a breakup. Counselling will address the breakup and provide practical assistance on handling the breakup in the present time. Counselling doesnt go to the root cause of problems and doesnt address concerning patterns.
Whereas, therapy places great emphasis on deep seated painful emotions, memories, and cognitions – and brings them to the surface. It also processes powerful emotions such as grief, anger, and forgiveness. As the onion is peeled further and further, you will have more opportunities to reflect on effective and ineffective patterns.
The first session is more like an in-depth consultation, where you will talk about what is concerning you. We will take time to get to know each other and talk about your goals for therapy. You will also learn about my approach of working.
It is very normal and natural to experience apprehension about meeting your therapist for the first time, who is essentially a stranger to you. You will gain calm withing the first few minutes of starting the session.
I use Acuity Scheduler to take appointments. The appointment page is simple and straightforward. After you book an appointment, you will get an email confirmation and later a text reminder.
For people coming to the centre: you will be paying through cash/card/patym after the session is over.
For people looking for online appointment: after the session is over, you will get a payment link to pay for the session(s).
